LITTLE STEVEN AND THE DISCIPLES OF SOUL

DATE: SATURDAY 5. AUGUST 2017 VENUE: Hovigs Hangar TIME: 00:00

Steven Van Zandt, aka Little Steven, guitarist in Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band and actor in the cult series The Sopranos announce the reunion of his legendary musical project - Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul. On Saturday August 5th, Little Steven will be the main attraction at the Notodden Blues Festival, with his band of 15 musicians, complete with a 5-piece horn section and all-girl backup singers. Just last summer, together with the E Street Band, he played for over 100,000 people in Norway – and 2.7 million in total for the entire 2016 – 17 River Tour!

Ever since Little Steven visited the Notodden Blues Festival for the first time in 2015, we have wanted to have him perform on stage. Now, for the Notodden Blues Festival 30th Anniversary we have finally succeeded! With 15 musicians on stage, including a horn section and backup chorus, we can all look forward to the New Jersey sound coming alive once more – a combination of rock, Rhythm and Blues and Stax-inspired soul.  This is a concert that no one should miss!

Little Steven is working on a new album to be released in September. The first single Saint Valentine’s Day gives us a good idea of what we can expect from this album that will consist of Little Steven’s interpretation of different songs he has written for other artists.

Artists that have recorded Saint Valentine’s Day include the Norwegian band Cocktail Slippers, and in addition the album will include Etta James and James Brown songs. We can also look forward to the release of the entire remastered Little Steven song catalogue beginning later in 2017.

“Notodden is such a wonderful festival. I promised I’ll come and play some time, and this is the year. I’m going back to my original soul music roots and have a 15-piece band including 5 horns and 3 backup girl singers. It’s our only concert in Norway.

“I’m looking forward to play there along with Buddy Guy. He is extremely influential and important. And also Charlie Musselwhite. He is one of the most important of the second generation blues musicians. To have Buddy Guy and Charlie Musselwhite on the bill is truly great. Notodden is always a good festival.”

“Notodden has a great story. They’ve had practically every great act playing there through the years. Now they celebrate 30 years and it’s going to be quite an honor for me to be playing there.”
