DEVON ALLMAN
Most visitors to the Notodden Blues Festival know Devon Allman well. They also know that Devon is the son of rock legend Gregg Allman and that his father often took him on stage with The Allman Brothers Band. Music history runs through Devon Allman's veins. He really gained an audience in Norway through his many visits with the supergroup The Royal Southern Brotherhood that he had with Mike Zito and Cyril Neville. Devon Allman first made a name for himself to the Norwegian audience when he debuted as a young artist at the Notodden Blues Festival with Javier Vargas in 2006. He gained many fans at the time and the number has only grown since then. In recent years he has toured and made records with The Allman Betts Band, and has had great success holding concerts with the band project The Allman Family Revival and The Devon Allman Blues Summit. Devon plays his own songs and well-known Allman Brothers songs at his concerts.
BERNARD ALLISON
Bernard Allison was in many ways born to play the blues. He is the son of Luther Allison – the blues legend who held one of the Notodden Blues Festival’s most legendary concerts in 1996. Both Luther and Bernard say that his father never tried to pressure Bernard to start playing, and certainly not to start playing the blues. It was just something that happened on its own. Luther was always traveling, so it came as a surprise to him when he realized that his son was on his way to becoming a good guitarist.
Bernard has an inherent quality to being an artist. At the Notodden Blues Festival he became an audience favorite in 2000 when he took the audience by storm at Tapperiet. Bernard Allison is a modern blues artist who brings with him a lot of the energy from rock music. His relationship with his father eventually became very close. They learned from each other, discussed music and played together at concerts, but Bernard always stuck to his own path that he wanted to tread. Yet he has such great respect for his late father that he always includes one or two of his songs in his concert performances.
