Women in Blues and Gospel
It is not a Notodden Blues Festival without new exciting musical encounters.
Our church concerts have time and again proven to be well-suited places for this. On Wednesday, July 29, we invite you to a new and atmospheric church concert in Heddal Stave Church. This time, the audience is invited to a very special musical experience, where the expression of the blues meets the power of gospel.
The concert is an international collaboration with Damer i blues, led by Margit Bakken and Rita Engedalen. After their success at the festival last year, they return with new guests. This time together with renowned and award-winning blues pianist and singer Eden Brent from Mississippi, USA, and Norwegian Kim Fairchild.
Eden Brent is known for her strong communication skills and distinctive voice. She has won the Blues Music Awards 4 times, and is nominated once again this year. With roots in both blues and gospel from Mississippi, she creates intense and present musical moments that touch the audience.
In addition, the audience will meet Kim Fairchild, both an actress and singer, who is performing at the Notodden Blues Festival for the very first time. With her charisma and stage presence, she adds an extra dimension to the concert.
Kim Fairchild is a versatile artist with an impressive career as a musician, singer, and actress! She has distinguished herself as a unique and strong communicator, and is particularly recognized for her poignant and personal interpretations of jazz legend Billie Holiday.
Through the performance "All Of Me" and concerts all over Norway, she has brought both the music and the strong story of Holiday to life - to great enthusiasm for the audience and critics.
This will be an intimate and acoustic concert and tribute to the women in blues and gospel - an evening filled with emotions, musicality and strong encounters between artists and audience.
Eden Brent collaborated with Margit and Rita Damer i Blues in 2012 at the Notodden Blues Festival. Kim Fairchild from Bergen has collaborated with the musical duo Damer i Blues on previous occasions. This will be the first time that all four of them will be performing together in a concert. We are looking forward to it. The atmosphere in the old church from the 13th century will be completely unique. This is definitely a concert you should not miss.
