Daniel Eriksen, Mattis Kleppen, Viktor Wilhelmsen & Stig Sjøstrøm
SaturdayAugust 3kl. 13:00Folk and Blues

Chicken Skin Music is a new exciting musical project from Daniel Eriksen, which will have its premiere at Notodden. Eriksen has handpicked some of the country’s best musicians to play songs from Ry Cooder’s wonderful songbook.

Ry Cooder is perhaps Daniel Eriksen’s biggest musical role model. Cooder is one of the great artists of our time, a distinctive world-class guitarist and not least an artist with a fantastic discography. At this concert, a selection from Cooder’s catalog is interpreted and performed by some of the country’s leading musicians in blues, roots, folk music and jazz. This is a concert premiere that you should definitely catch.

Mattis Kleppen is a highly recognized bassist and professor of music. He mixes folk music from Telemark and blues from Mali and Mississippi in a whimsical way. Mattis has received both the Folkelarm prize for the album “Bass guitar” and won the open class at the Landskappleiken 2019 and 2022. Viktor Wilhelmsen is one of the country’s most exciting guitarists. He has a master’s in jazz from the Conservatory of Music in Trondheim, and works with music that ranges between blues, jazz, rock, Northern Sami joik and African guitar music. Stig Sjøstrøm is a drummer in high demand. He has studied jazz and classical percussion in Caen, traditional drums in Africa, Second Line in New Orleans and blues in Mississippi. Daniel Eriksen is one of the country’s most active blues artists, and has toured nationally and internationally for several years. There have been two Spellemann prizes, the Blues prize at the Notodden Blues Festival, and second place in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, together with Stig Sjøstrøm.
