Spoonful of Blues

Spoonful of Blues comes from the blues town of Notodden and has established itself as one of Norway's most popular blues bands with its catchy tunes and rock blues expression.

The sought-after band tours Norwegian blues clubs and festivals to full houses, and they are increasingly playing internationally with increasing attention. Sweden, Denmark, Finland, France, Poland and the USA are on the tour schedule every year, and the band is behind recordings that are praised on both sides of the Atlantic.

Spoonful of Blues released their new album "Songs From Notodden Norway" at the end of November. The album received rave reviews in the media and the band experienced great interest from foreign radio stations. The album went straight into the Top 40 Blues Radio Playlist in England. Where it stayed for three months and with two of the months in the Top 10. The reviewers referred to "Songs From Notodden Norway" as Spoonful of Blues' very best album. The album was nominated for Spellemann.

When everything was supposed to be just joy, tragedy hit the band like a bomb when guitarist Morten Omlid died at the same time as the album was released, and only one day before Spoonful of Blues was to start its launch tour. The band was in shock and the tour was cancelled.

Spoonful of Blues held a magical memorial concert for Morten Omlid with a sold-out house in Drammen just before Christmas. For the concert, Spoonful of Blues brought in Jens Fjelle and Øystein Ytterbø as guitarists. Both are former guitar students of Morten Omlid and belong to the new generation of skilled guitarists in the blues family at Notodden.

The audience in Drammen was impressed by how convincingly Fjelle and Ytterbø played both old Spoonful hits and the songs from the new album. The Spoonful fans pressed the two young guitarists to their chests, and many expressed the wish that the band would continue to tour and take the two former students of Morten Omlid with them. And that is what has happened.

Spoonful of Blues plays songs from "Songs From Notodden Norway" and old audience favourites, now with Øystein Ytterbø and Jens Fjelle on guitars. With two guitarists, the band gets a fresh and rich soundscape, and both old and new Spoonful songs appear to be sure audience winners. Audiences have really embraced this new edition of Spoonful of Blues, and the band's tours are sold out. Look forward to hearing this favorite band from Notodden play songs from their extensive song catalog with a fantastic new line-up.
